ABFs are:
- Places to really get connected with others in your stage of life.
- Opportunities to seriously reflect on God and His plan for our lives.
- Platforms from which many differently gifted individuals can serve those in need.
- Footholds to find stability in a turbulent world and growing church.
You should be in one because:
- God created you to serve Him alongside others.
- We learn more and better when viewing life from different angles.
- When you need help, there will be many people there for you.
ABFs meet on Sunday mornings from 9:15 until 10:15. Check out those below that interest you, find one you feel comfortable in and prepare to be blessed!
C3 – College & Career Class
Our high school grads through 20-somethings gather each Sunday in the Upper Room (upstairs and right of the main lobby) to grow in Christ through in-depth Bible study. Then on Wednesday nights they get together in the Oasis from 9 to 11 p.m. for Hideaway, which is both a midweek fellowship and an outreach to co-workers and fellow students.
C3 is currently exploring the New Testament book of John, which paints a compelling picture of Jesus Christ as God-in-the-flesh. This study is being led by Gene Burrows. Danny and Jennifer Smith serve as the leaders of this lively group as well.
Sojourners Fellowship
Realizing (as 1 Peter 2:11 has it) that they are “strangers and pilgrims in this world,” the Sojourners faithfully seek to become like God in such a way that those who see their lives and good works will give glory to God.
The Sojourners are studying the Gospel of Mark, a book that highlights Jesus as the God who serves. Mark 10.45: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” What a Savior! And, what a challenge to live and love as He does.
This group meets in room 103 and is led by Carl Martin and Kris Dain, one of our deacons. The Sojourners’ teacher is Scott Shaffer, a professional engineer and avid Bible student. Scott has taught for 15 years and strives for group interaction.
Discipleship Class
Disciples: “those who follow the teachings of another.” The Christ-followers in this ABF are folks in the 45-plus age range, but welcome and enjoy those of any age and stage. Members of this tight-knit group wouldn’t think of going anywhere else!
Currently, this class is studying the New Testament book of James, one of the most practical and straightforward books on living the Christian life and pleasing God.
The Discipleship Fellowship meets down-stairs in the education wing, room 110. Brian Coppinger is the leader, and John Rack is the teacher. John, one of our elders, has a wealth of practical experience, having taught and led large and small-group Bible studies for more than 25 years. John’s teaching goals are to motivate a deep love for God and enhance a desire for personal godliness.
Seekers Fellowship
Seekers are on a quest; they are looking for something of value. If you are a seeker, if you are looking for a better understanding of the Bible and more meaningful relationships with God and His people, then you might check out this ABF.
The Seekers have just begun a study of Deuteronomy in tandem with a history of Israel. Join us as we seek out what this book tells us about the nature of God.
The Seekers meet downstairs in room 112. They are led by Phil Rehlander and taught primarily by James Detrich, a Dallas Seminary graduate and Ph.D. student.
Koinonia Fellowship
A large group of adults from all life stages, the Koinonia Fellowship is known for warm relationships, creative socials and supportive projects.
Samuel, Eli, Saul, David, Jonathan, Goliath, and Abigail are all familiar names. But what about Michal, Gad, Ahimelech, Doeg, and Abithar? In our study of 1 Samuel we are examining the lives of these and other individuals-both famous and infamous personalities, people who walked with God and people who didn’t. And through these people-both good ones and bad ones-we can learn a lot about how to live for the Lord, how to be spiritually on target.
The Koinonia Fellowship meets in room 120 on the ground floor of the education wing. It is led by Charles Reibenstein and taught by Dr. Roy Zuck. Dr. Zuck taught at Dallas Seminary for 23 years, serving in various leadership capacities. He is the editor of Bibliotheca Sacra, the seminary’s theological journal, and is the copy and theological editor of the seminary’s magazine, Kindred Spirit. He has written or edited 70 books on biblical and educational subjects. He has taught adult Bible fellowships for about 45 years and has ministered in several dozen countries.
Berean Fellowship
This warm, caring and prayerful fellowship is engaged in a study of the Gospel of John, covering the major issues in the life of Christ along with many doctrines presented by the Apostle John in a verse by verse format.
This fellowship meets downstairs in room 113 and is led by Jay Welch. The Bereans are taught by Dr. Larry Waters, a missionary for 20-plus years to The Philippines and now a professor at Dallas Theological Seminary. “Now the Bereans were of … noble character … for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day” (Acts 17.11).
If you are looking for a loving, nurturing and grace-filled group to grow with in Christ, the Berean Fellowship may be just what you are looking for. Check them out!
